Cesarean Section: Who Can Be Present During Your Surgery?

Question
How many people are permited in the room with you during a cesarean surgery?

Answer
Hello Lyndsey. Every hospital has it's own rules and every surgeon and anesthetist has their own rules too. Usually just the father of the baby is allowed in and he must sit on a stool beside the mother's head. However, if the anesthetist is in a bad mood or has been awake for many hours doing unscheduled surgeries, even that may be ruled out. You need to read these two books about sections- The Silent Knife and Open Season both by Nancy Wainer Cohen- she has a website in her name- go there for more good info and ordering the books. All the best- Cheri.
