QuestionI'm 21, i'm pregnant for the first time and my last period was (i believe, not sure) july 28th.
so i went to the doctor today (sep 22) and was told i am 8 weeks 2 days. i forgot to stress the fact of what i've done before i knew i was pregnant.
i was about 6.5-7 weeks when i first found out i was. i am really worried i don't want anything to be wrong with my baby and i regret not asking him more questions, i hope you can help me.
I have been smokng marijuana for 4 years everyday just about, once in a while i drink those malt liquor drinks and i had hydrocodone painkillers with the alcohol a few times, i knew i felt diffrent but i ignored it untill i really realised something was wrong because my breasts had been swollen for over a month. i found out i was pregnant a week after i took a lor tab with alcohol (the other time i took some was supposedly when i first concieved) and i quit everything completely, but i'm worried something may be wrong. the doctor said everything looked normal but i know he didn't take a test or anything for that kind of thing.
the ultrasound he took wouldn't tell would it?
i know what you must think of me but i am being sincere, i want this baby but i am scared, i can't take care of a baby with special problems, its going to be hard enough with a healthy one. I feel horrible i wish i could have known sooner, i don't even take the lor tabs that often it just happen to be then that my friend had some because his arm was broke. Please let me know what i need to know. Thank You for your time. -Suzie
AnswerThe are no studies that show any detrimental effects to the pregnancy of the use of marijuana during pregnancy. However, as long as you stop taking any alcohol during pregnancy, you will not have any problems. The use of hydrocodone (lortabs) during the first trimester have not been shown to cause any mental retardation or any other anomalies. However, heavy use of hydrocodone throughout pregnancy can lead to withdrawal symptoms in the baby.
