Colds & Pregnancy: Safe Remedies & Concerns for Expectant Mothers

Question
I have a friend that is pregnant.  She is one month along and has had two previous miscarriages, so she is worried.  She also has a history of siezers (sp?).  She is a CNA and experiences frequent backpain and has had a cough, soar throat, and some congestion for the past few days.  She is concerned about taking any type of otc medication because she is afraid she will hurt the baby.  Is there any medication she would be able to feel safe takeing?

Answer
Throughout pregnancy, it is safe to take Tylenol, Sudafed (for stuffy nose) and Robitussin (for cough). Drink plenty of fluids. There is no reason to suspect that a miscarriage will occur.  Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy and there is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. If she has no vaginal bleeding or cramps, don't worry.
