Rhogam Shot: Potential Side Effects and Impact on Fertility

Question
back in 2002 I had miscarried and had to get the rhogam shot cause I am negative blood type...they never told me about ANY side effects I could have with the shot and not long ago I was looking up info on it and it said "call your doctor right away if you have black, tarry stools"..well I did have that kind of stools after the shot but NO ONE told me about it when I got the shot...could that make me not be able to conceive cause I didnt have treatment for the side effect?

Answer
Black tarry stools are seen after many medications and ahve no effect on your ability to conceive or any other problem in the future. Most often, black tarry stools are due to an increase in iron supplementation or excretion and has nothing to do with side effects from medication. RhoGam does not cause you to have any side effects and merely protects you from developing antibodies against Rh positive blood. The RhoGam shot that you got would not have caused any problems. Don't worry.
