QuestionI am 18 1/2 weeks pregnant and all day the left side of my lower stomach has felt much firmer than the right side. Is this a problem and why would it happen. Thank You Very Much!
AnswerRemember, as your uterus grows, all of your other abdominal organs (intestines, pancreas, liver, etc) are pushed around (up, or to the sides) by the growing uterus. This is probably what you are feeling. Your stomach is also pushed up by pressure of the uterus on the diaphram. That is probably the cause of this firmness. I doubt that it presents a problem. If, however, you are experiencing severe pain in that area, please have it evaluated by your obstetrician.
