Clomid, Period Changes & Caffeine: What to Know
QuestionI am 35 and have been taking Clomid for the past three months. With my periods, there has been a lot of clotting and this is not normal for me. Is this normal with taking Clomid or should I be worried. Taking Clomid as I was pregnant and misscarried at 18weeks(last year, May) and having problems conceiving now. Also, will caffiene affect my chances of getting pregnant? Drink 1 coffee and 2 sodas a day. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Cheryl
AnswerClomid works on the hypothalamus by interfering with the negative feedback mechanism of FSH production in the anterior pituitary gland. This causes more FSH production and a higher liklihood of ovulation due to maturation of more graafian follicles in the ovary. If you were ovulating, Clomid will not help. If you were not ovulating, Clomid often helps you ovulate. It has nothing to do with a miscarriage. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy and there is nothing you can do to cause or prevent a miscarriage.Caffeine will not affect your chances of getting pregnant. What dose of Clomid are you taking. If you are taking Clomid and do not conceive within 6 months, I would stop the Clomid. Usually, my patients do not respond until they are taking 100mg Clomid on cycle day #5,6,7,8, and 9. Good Luck.
