Understanding Elevated Eosinophils and Reproductive Health Concerns

Question
I have history of  1 normal pregnancy, 2nd pregnancy bleeding throughout with premature delivery, then 6 early miscarriages since (all 7-8 wks gestation).  All tests (genetic included) come out negative.    I had a Hemogram done yesterday which shows Eosinophils elevated at 6%.     My insurance doesn't cover the Repro.Endocrinologist that wants to do Heparin therapy on me. No one else will help.   Is this Eosinophil level high enough to raise concern?

Answer
An elevation of eosiniphils may indicate that you have an allergy to something. Before you start heparin therapy, I would first get several tests. YOu should have an anticardiolipin antibody test as well as a test for antiphospholipid syndrome. If you have lupus or some other collagen vascular illness, then you should be placed on heparin or lovonex as soon as you become pregnant.  If you keep losing the pregnancy at 7-8 weeks gestation, it may merely be a miscarriage. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. You did, in fact, have two successful pregnancies (even if the second one ended with a premature delivery), so we do know that you can conceive and carry a pregnancy. If all blood tests are negative and there are no positive findings (chlamydial infection, etc), I would just try again before you start heparin. Don't worry about your eosinophils.
