Postpartum Hematoma After Cesarean Section: Symptoms & Evaluation

Question
35, 3 children (1 deceased), LMP Oct 30 (withdraw bleed from birth control pill.)
I had a c-section Aug 21 for the birth of my son and third child at 30 weeks.  Unfortunately, he did not survive.  I went on birth control pills for 2 months after his birth my last pill being Oct 27.  I wanted my body to regulate before trying again and I did not ovulate the first month (November.)  I have since not bled and I have had an MRI of my uterus and it stated that I have a hematoma in the anterior wall of the uterine body extending to the uterine cavity.  I am told I need time for this to resolve on it's own.  How much time?  I have not met with my doctor after the MRI and I am frustrated because I haven't met with him.  Now I just sit and wait.  Please give me some more information on this.  Greatly appreciated.  I desperately want another baby soon.

Answer
Usually, hematomas of the uterus will resolve on their own. During pregnancy, this can be caused by a subchorionic bleed within the folds of the placenta. However, since you are not pregnant at this time, I can't tell what the cause of the hematoma is. It sounds like some sequestration of blood in the wall of the uterus but I need more information to assess it. Your doctor should discuss the results in depth with you. If you have not bled since October 30, I think your doctor should induce your period for you. Perhaps the blood is merely a collection of endometrial tissue and will resolve after you start your period. Pleae discuss the results with your doctor.
