Tiny Amniochorionic Separation at 16 Weeks: What to Expect

Question
I went to the hospital and got an ultrasound yesterday, i am
16 weeks 4 days pregnant with my first baby and I have
had some light brown spotting after straining to go to the
bathroom . This has been going on for 3 weeks usually
once or twice a week, it is only after I wipe. They said that
the separation is very tiny should I be worried?. Is it
possible that it will resolve it self? Should i be on bedrest? I
am scared, even though they say the baby is healthy.

Thank you so much

Answer
Hi Joanne
Thank you for your question.
If the Dr's are worried that there is no risk to your baby then i would say that you should not be worried also. Bedrest is not necessary but i would suggest that you are sensible and not extra heavy lifting etc just to be on the safe side.
The amniochorionic separation is possibly a tiny bit of the membrane that covers the placenta has come away but the placenta itself will still be attached. As I said previously just be sensible. If bleeding becomes heavier than see your Obstetrician.
This separation sometimes occurs when the uterus is growing out of the pelvic cavity, or if the placental memberane is dipping into  what was the neck of the womb.
So dont worry enjoy your pregnancy, and be sensible if you are concerned dont hesitate to contact your Obstetric team.
