Understanding Greenish-Black Vomit in Newborns: Meconium & What to Expect

RIGHT AFTER MY SON WAS BORN HE

THREW UP GREENISH BLK THICK ? The doctors never told us what it was but they kept him over night because of it. They did say something must have got inside him when he was coming out the birth canal?It really resembled feceses.I was hoping you might know what this was?

Your son may have swallowed some meconium. Sometimes, the baby can move its bowels prior to delivery and can swallow the mixture of amniotic fluid and this feces (meconium). It causes no problem unless the baby aspirates it and it gets into its lungs. Many babies swallow the meconium and vomit it or it is suctioned out of the stomach. It should not have any effect on his development in the future.
