Early Pregnancy Progesterone Levels: Understanding Your Chances
QuestionI am 31 Years old with no children presently.
My last period was Jan 15th 2006 with a regular
25 day cycle. I had a miscarriage back in oct 2005. I have my HGC Levels checked last week they were at 275 with normal progestrone level and this week at 1,777 with a slight drop in progestrone. My doctor said it should be around 15 and im at 10. He prescribed 200mg of progestrone orally once a day. What are my chances? Am i having another miscarriage or am i over stressing.
AnswerIf you can maintain your progesterone over 10, you have a good chance of continuing the pregnancy. I would agree with your doctor to start taking progesterone supplentation (Prometria 200mg daily). However, stop the progesterone supplementation after you reach 12 weeks gestation (when the placenta takes over production of progesterone). It appears that the HCG value is rising nicely. In another week you can take a sonogram and see if there is a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. If there is a fetal heartbeat and you have not had any bleeding, it looks good.
