QuestionI am 4 months pregnant. One of my friends told me that bending into the washer to pull out wet clothes and then bending to toss them in the dryer can be dangerous for the baby! I also tend to get down on my knees and scrub the bathroom, is that in any way harmful to the baby?
I am also forever bending to get things out of my kitchen cabinets, taking out things and putting them back. I usually also tend to go up and down the stairs several times a day and sometimes a little fast. Is all of this safe?
Also one book suggested that I sleep only on my sides, certainly not on belly, but also not on my back, because it cuts circulation to the baby.
Please advise. Thank you.
AnswerUntil you are 20 weeks pregnant, you can bend as much as you like (removing clothes from the washer or dryer, aerobics, sit ups, etc. After 20 weeks you will lose your waist. When you want to bend to pick up something, squat rather than bend from the waist . You are corect that you should ALWAYS sleep on your left side. This takes the uterus off the vena cava (the vein that brings blood back tro the heart). This will improve perfusion to the baby.
