Understanding Rh Negative Children: Genetics and Parent Compatibility
QuestionThis is not a question but a comment to answer you had given concerning Rh negative children and their parents. My husband and I are both Rh positive and we have a child that is Rh negative. The reason for this is that we are heterozygous for little d. It is possible for a Rh negative child to have Rh positive parents. It all comes back to genetics and what genes transcribe.
Thanks
AnswerIf a woman is Rh Negative and her husband is also Rh Negative, the baby cannot be Rh positive and, therefore, does not need any further workup or RhoGam at 28 weeks and after delivery of the baby. Blood types are based on the mother and father and the grandparents, etc.Rh Negative (du positive) is a recessive trait and, if the mother or father have Rh negative blood, we are sure that there is no Rh positive. (This is different if you are Rh positive exactly due to the fact that you may be heterozygous. You cannot be heterozygous for Rh Negative.
