Understanding Mid-Cycle Bleeding After Ectopic Pregnancy: What Could It Mean?

Question
Hi, I had an ectopic pregnancy in April.  After the past few months my menstrual cycle has regulated itself and once again I have just stopped taking the pill at the end of July, in hopes to become pregnant again.  Today is day 18 of my menstrual cycle and there is bright pink blood when I go to the washroom and I have major cramping in my back.  Could I be miscarrying?

Answer
Hi,

It is unlikely that on day 18 of your cycle, you would be miscarrying.  The egg would not have even implanted by this point.  You likely would have only conceived 1-3 days ago.  So, it sounds to me like you are having an irregular menstrual cycle and this is your period.  However, anytime you have irregular bleeding, it is a good idea to get checked out by your doctor, especially since you are trying to conceive.  Good luck!
