Tattoos During Pregnancy: Risks & Recommendations

Question
me and my wife want to get matching tattoo's and she is 8 months along.

Answer
Hi Anthony, and Congrats on the upcoming birth of your baby :)

Personally, I advise for your wife to wait until after the baby is born to get a tattoo.

First off, her system is going to be very sensative, due to the pregnancy. Much more so, then normal. She could faint during the process, perhaps overheat.

Also, I know that many tattoo shops these days use clean, sterile needles. However, HIV, Hep B and other infections are a concern as well. Given, that now and days most reputable tattoo shops use clean, and sterile needles, the chances are slim. But, its still something to think about.

Also, skin infection, blood infection, can also happen, because tattooing does leave a wound on the skin. If an infection festers, this can directly affect your baby as well.

If your wife in a hypothetical situation came down with some kind of infection, even with antibiotics, this infection can be passed through to the baby through breast milk, after the baby is born.

Just a few things you need to consider here.

She's almost to the end of her pregnancy. Personally, I'd wait till after the baby is born ..just so you dont have any unforseen problems.

Hope this is of some help.
