Answer
Dear Cindy

Usually the difference between the period of amenorrhea and ultrasound estimation of the pregnancy's age does not exceed few days in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. When u had your ultrasound almost 10 days ago, it showed 8 weeks fetus although u had 9 and half weeks amenorrhea. This with vaginal bleeding, especially if the blood looked dark and not fresh, and absent heart beats is not reassuring. However, it is important to keep in mind that exceptions do exist and that is why a final diagnosis cannot be made except after a repeat ultrasound usually between 1-2 weeks from the first ultrasound.

There is no harm of prenatal vitamins and you can continue them until a final diagnosis is made.

Good Luck
