Negative Pregnancy Test, Positive Symptoms? Understanding Delayed Periods & Possible Causes

Question
I've missed my period about a week ago and have been having pregnancy symptoms, tender breasts, constipation, cramping, mood swings and I just feel pregnant, but I have been getting negative results from my pregnancy test. I've been pregnant twice before and always gotten a positive result right away when taking a test. Now, my period won't come and I keep getting negative results.  The only thing I can figure is I might still be have symptoms from being on Microgestin. I was on Microgestin for two cycles and never got my period and felt pregnant while on it, now I'm off of it and had unprotected sex and feel "pregnant" but get negative results.  Could Microgestin still be residually affecting my hormone and interrupting my cycle still?
Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
Dear Elly,

If you have been off the Microgestin for at least one cycle, you should not still be feeling the side effects from it. In fact, you really should not have felt much in the way of side effects from it once you quit taking it.

Typically, women will not get a strong positive result on a pregnancy test until approximately 3 weeks after conception. For some, it can be slightly earlier, and for others it is later. But that is the average time that we can usually get a positive result if pregnant. Make sure you are using 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results.

I hope this has helped you and answered your questions. Be well!
