Question
I had sex about 2 weeks before my period was due an now i have missed my period..I feel like i want to get sick sometimes but nothing comes up an i have a weird feeling in my stomach like i have a stomach ache or something. I also been having a white an sometimes clear discharge an i was wondering if that could be a sign of pregnancy i have never been pregnant before so I'm new to this but i want to find out for sure before i say anything to my mom cause she would kill me an never let me around my boyfriend again i just want to be sure before i say something that might cause a problem i would really appreciate an answer ASAP Thanks

Answer
Dear Chelsea,

Yes, the symptoms you describe can be symptoms of early pregnancy but they are hormonal in nature and can also be related to hormone surges within our cycle. That is why it is so difficult to "diagnose" a pregnancy based on symptoms alone. You will really need to test to be sure.

If the unprotected sex took place approximately two weeks before you expected your period and you have regular 28 day cycles, most likely you were ovulating and very fertile. Ovulation typically takes place on about Day 14 of your cycle. This is when you are the MOST susceptible to conceiving a pregnancy.

So - if you want to be sure before you share the information with your family or anyone, you will need to take a test. I usually recommend that women wait until the week after a missed or spotty period before testing for pregnancy. If you have missed your period completely, meaning the full five days have passed, go ahead and test with a home pregnancy test. Make sure to use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results and follow the directions exactly.

I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. Please feel free to write again with any further questions. I wish you well.
