QuestionHi. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and everything seems to be going well. The last visit I went to the doctor could hear the heartbeat from the outside of my stomach. We haven't done an ultrasound yet as my insurance doesn't kick in with my new job for another three weeks. A few of months ago I left a tampon in for three weeks. I had one period after that experience. I never had any pain or anything like that. I am wondering if there are any concerns I should have as a result of that. Should I get an ultrasound?
AnswerDear Giselle,
As long as the tampon was removed, you had a period, and have not experienced any symptoms of a vaginal/cervical infection since it has been removed - it should not be an issue. If your doctor has done a pelvic exam, he/she would have noted any signs of infection.
Typical signs of infection would be:
-foul vaginal odor
-unusual vaginal discharge
-redness, swelling, irritation
-itching, pain, or other discomfort
-fever
If your insurance does not start for another three weeks, this issue would not necessitate moving it up from that point. Go ahead and schedule it for three weeks from now.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
