Second Trimester Illness: Vomiting & Diarrhea - Seeking Advice
QuestionI am currently 14 weeks pregnant. My first trimester went fairly smoothly, but as I reached 12 weeks, I started vomiting almost on a daily basis (only nausea before this). My doc put me on phenegran, but I still vomit at least 2 to 3 times (or more) a day. My problem is that two days ago I developed watery diarrhea. I called the nurse at my doc's office, and she said to take Imodium and the phenegran and I would be fine. It is honestly so bad that I am afraid that I am going to become dehydrated. I can't hold any food or liquids down at all. The nurse keeps brushing me off. How long should it take for this to clear up? Any ideas on why it began? And at what point should I demand to be seen by the doctor? I realize that you may not be able to answer all my questions, but any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
AnswerDear Leah
I rely very much on patients' words. Therefore, if you are taking medications since 2 days without improvement, and you have the feeling you may go dehydrated then you should seek your family physician without delay. You may have some gastrointestinal infestion that require aggressive treatment and possible hospitalization for rehydration according to the results of some lab testing.
Good Luck
