Exercise & Pregnancy: Heart Rate, Urine Color & Safe Limits

Question
I have two questions. I have been exercising regularly for the last three years. I
even competed in a triathlon last summer. I just found out that I am pregnant.
Can I still exercise as much as I want to? I watch to make sure my heart rate
hasn't gone over 180. (I am 29) Also, I have noticed that for the last 2 days, my
urine has had no color. Is that ok?

Answer
You can continue to exercise at the level to which you are acclimated, until about twenty weeks. Then you should slowly begin to taper down the intensity of your workouts. Always stay in a cardio-training zone, down pass your anaerobic threshold, or the point in which you begin to pant. You can continue to do interval training if you are used to doing this. If not, don't start now.

Be aware that as your pregnancy progresses, that you ligaments will become looser and not longer provide adequate stability to your joints. For this reason, many women switch to low impact exercise in the latter part of pregnancy. But some women can continue to run throughout their pregnancies with no problems. Monitor your body, and switch to non/low impact if neccessary.

Dark urine is a sign of dehydration. Up your fluid intake.
