Exercise and Spotting in Pregnancy: What to Do?
QuestionHi Helene,
I'm 18 weeks pregnant with a mono/di twin pregnancy. I've been experiencing (initially bleeding and then) spotting for about the last month. Ultrasounds have detected two extramembranous haemorrages: at the right lateral margin of the placenta and below the sac.
I've been taking it easy due to the bleeding but the spotting is now very light and I am considering excerise again. Do I have anything to worry about - am I likely to cause more bleeding?
Thanks, Alicia
AnswerAll twin pregnancies are considered higher risk. Because you've been spotting too, you should discuss your situation fully with your OBGYN. It's possible that walking, at an easy to moderate pace, for up to 30 minutes will be OK for you, but you should not engage in any physical exertion before getting a clear picture of the possible risks and benefits that increased activity might bring about.
