Understanding a Possible Blighted Ovum After IVF: What to Expect

Question
I have been monitored carefully after this ivf because my previous cycle ended in an ectopic and I had pain which turned out to be related to a large corpus luteum cyst. At 6w 1d pregnant my scan showed a sac in the uterus of 19mm but it looked empty. My consultant said it is too early to decide anything and go back in 2 weeks for another scan. Everything I have read say it probably a blighted ovum but my doctor did not even mention that. Is there still hope?

Answer
Was it a trans abdominal scan or trans vaginal? If it was a abdominal scan then you need not lose heart. At six weeks it is possible for the gestational sac to look empty. However if it was a transvaginal scan, the chance of this being a viable pregnancy are slim,as the sac with the foetus is clearly visualized at this time.
