QuestionHi, We are trying to have a kind from past 9 month, but of no positive news. We both, me 30 and my wife 27 years, are quite healthy and have normal vegetarian diet. Its sometimes that my wife gets tensed about not having a kid still. Please advice us if we need to get a checkup on the fertility.
Also, we observe that on 17th day, after her periods start, the white strechy transparent liquid is still seen near her vagina. So how many days should we continue to try conceiving?
Also, since we are vegetarian, should we consider having some specific foods to increase the chances?
Please help.
Thanks,
Nandish
AnswerI think I have answered this question before, but I will recapitulate the important points here.
1. Couples are investigated for infertility only after one full year has elapsed since trying to conceive. In cases where the female partner is more than 35 yrs of age, investigations can start after six months of unprotected sexual intercourse.
2. The peak fertility period varies from woman to woman. In women who have regular 28 day cycles the peak fertility period is from the 14-17th day. In women who have 30 day cycles it will be from the 16th to 19th day. The take home message is that women ovulate exactly 14 days before their period starts. Therefore depending on the periodicity of your wife cycle you must calculate the fertility period.
3. The white stretchy liquid you mention is the cervical secretion. It is characteristic of ovulation having occurred in the past 24 hours. Therefore you must try to have sex as many times as possible between the 16-20 days of cycles.
4. Vegetarian diet is quite rich in nutrients. As long as you and your wife maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol you should conceive.
I wish you and your wife the very best and hope that your wife conceives as soon as possible. Visit my website for more information on pregnancy and pregnancy disorders.
