QuestionHi there my question is regarding my fiancee who as a child had his right testicle kicked up inside of him and then had it surgically tied in place. The question is what are the chances of us not conceiving a child together. I myself have two children from a previous relationship so i know that it is not me. We are going to send in a sperm sample to the lab to have it tested. If it turns out that everything is good, what can we do to increase our chances of getting pregnant? And could this accident actually prevent him form making sperm??
AnswerHello Sheri from Canada,
It is possible that the accident caused some internal injury to that particular testicle, which could lead to damage in sperm production or scar tissue that might prevent sperm from exiting. However, if he has an intact normal opposite testicle, then his fertility should not be compromised. That's the nice thing about having two testicles. I think that they best way to proceed is to do a semen analysis, as you have planned and see what is going on. Hopefully it will be fine.
If it is normal, then you can continue to try on your own if it has not already been more than 1 year of trying. I recommend the calendar method because it is the easiest to use. Basically you start counting the days from the first day of flow (cycle day#1#. When you get to cycle day #10, you stop having recreational intercourse and then on CD#13 you begin intercourse, once per day, one ejaculation per episode for five consecutive days #CD#13-17). That should cover the ovulatory period in your cycle. This method assumes that you have normal and regular ovulatory cycles. If you don't have regular cycles, then that is a different problem and needs to be addressed with a different treatment plan.
If you have already been trying for 1 year and no pregnancy has occurred, and the semen analysis is normal, then I would recommend that you see a fertility specialist to begin infertility testing.
