Question
i have already asked a question to one of the others, and the answer he gave me was to do a home pregnancy test, i had a laporoscopy to find out why i wasnt getting pregnant, my cycles are usually 28 days it is now been 36 days since the start of the last and the diagnosis of the laparoscopy was blocked tubes so i wouldnt have thought i was pregnant?  should i still do one? i had my op on the 17th may and was on day 3 of my cycle and it is now 17th june and still nothing??

Answer
Hello Lorraine from the U.K.,

Whenever a woman is late for or missed a period, we do a pregnancy test.  Stranger things have happened and I see miracles all the time.  In your case, with tubal abnormalities, if you become pregnant, there is the risk of an ectopic pregnancy which is a dangerous situation.  So the absolute first thing we need to do is make sure that you don't face that risk.

Periods can chance for lots of reasons.  Women's hormones are very volatile and influenced by a multiple number of factors.  For example prolonged close contact with another woman, such as a roommate, can change your cycles.  Stress can certainly influence your cycles.  So if the pregnancy test is negative, then we would just give you medication to get you started, then the ovaries usually will return to normal function.
