Infertility After Craniopharyngioma Surgery: Exploring Options & Second Opinions

Question
QUESTION: Hi there. I am 26 and had surgery in 2006 for a pituitary tumour-Craniopharyngioma. I am now trying to get pregnant and not responding to 4 vials of Repronex a day. My doctor said that I will not be able to have my own children. Is there another drug? There must be another way.. i need help and no other doctor in my area to get a second opinion not to mention the cost of the treatments alone. PLEASE let me know what you think.

ANSWER: Hello Miranda,

You have not given me enough information to make a suggestion.  Why is it that your doctor says you will not be able to get pregnant?  Do you have some other problem besides the pituitary problem because we can replace those hormones and get the ovaries to ovulate?  Please follow-up with more detailed information so that I can give you a better analysis.  The more specific information you can give me, the better.

QUESTION: The doctor said that he does not know why my ovaries are not responding to the Repronex. The tumour has given me hypothyroidism, diabetes insipidus and the lack of estrogen in which i am taking medication to help all 3. We did blood tests and are fine with the doses i am on.

Answer
Hello Again,

I still cannot tell you why you are not getting pregnant, however, it does not seem to be because of the pituitary problem.  As I said, we can replace those hormones and the ovaries can be stimulated independently if necessary.  I think you need to have a complete infertility evaluation, testing each of the 9 steps your body goes through, to see if there is something else going on.

Good Luck,
