Is there a difference between Follistim and Gonal-F? Why do some doctors prefer one over the other?

AnswerHello Lindsay from the U.S.,
Technically there is no difference between these two medications. I don't know about other doctors but I prefer Follistim over Gonal-f for the following reasons. I used to use Gonal-f exclusively and now use Follistim exclusively.
1. The follistim pen is easier to use.
2. Follistim is less expensive in the pharmacy that I use, whereas Gonal-f is less if bought through the Serono affiliated Pharmacy called Freedom pharmacy. I don't use Freedom pharmacy because my patients have had bad experiences with their service.
These are just my reasons. As I mentioned previously, it is possible that doctor's have other reasons for their preferences.
