QuestionDear Dr. Edward, my name is Karin from Austria. I had 2 failed IVF this year, although my last IVF had 3 embryos transferred with grade 1 and all the hormone levels are normal. I am looking for areason of the failure. I have a appendix scar (horizontal 6cm and vertical 2mm). Do you think it could be the reason? If it is the reason what can I do? Do I need a surrogate mother? Thank you and Best regards, Karin
AnswerHello Karin from Austria,
Are you working in the U.A.E.?
The appendectomy surgery would not have any impact on the failure of your IVF cycle. It may be for many other reasons such as embryo quality (inside the embryo which we cannot see or test for), endometrial lining issue, body's immune response, technique of the embryo transfer, hormone supplementation protocols, embryo lab quality, etc. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that only 60 percent of patients get pregnant on their first try (at least in my clinic) and the rest can take 3 tries or more. That is probably because the last two steps to achieve pregnancy, embryo hatching and attachment to the endometrium and implantation, are natural steps. There is no technology to make that happen. It is basically dependent on the embryo and the endometrium. Remember, IVF can increase your chances of pregnancy but it is not a perfect technology. It cannot make you pregnant. Only your body, nature and God can do that.
