Post-Failed FET Cycle: When to Restart & Exercise During Treatment

Question
I just got my period after a failed medicated FET cycle. I have been taking metformin three times daily, I have PCOS, and I was taking femara and prometrium. Should I take a break before trying again?

I also wanted to know if I can continue running during these treatments? I try to run three times a week for 30 minutes, approximately 3 1/2 kms? Is that alright?

Patient from Winnipeg, Canada

Answer
Hello Elizabeth from Canada,

It is not necessary to take a break from an FET cycle unless psychologically/emotionally you feel you need to.

I usually don't let me patients do any heavy exercise after embryo transfer, but studies have shown that this precaution is not necessary and probably does not make a difference.  My worry is that if you are breathing hard from any exercise routine, that is evidence that you have decreased oxygen flow and are using anaerobic (low or no oxygen) metabolism, which in turn could possibly decreased oxygen flow to the endometrium/implantation site.  That is a risk I am not willing to take.

Good Luck,
