LEEP Procedure & Tampon Use: Understanding Risks & Recommendations
QuestionDr. Hammoudi,
I had a LEEP performed last Wednesday and my doctor told me not to use tampons. Could you explain to me the risks involved and why it is not advisible to use them? I am just trying to get more informed and nothing on the internet is that specific. Every site just says not to use them but doesn't explain why. I just started my period and can't stand pads! I will not do something that puts my health at risk, I just prefer to understand the reasons behind everything. :) Thank you! Tori
Answerfor the simple reason that tampon can create a vaginal infection by blood accummulation beside of the friction on the wound of the procedure that can complicate and you can causing a bleeding .
this does not mean that you will not ever be able to put a tampon but just wait until everything is fine and the result of the pathology.
if it is benign fine otherwise you can pouch the tumor further but if this procedure is done it means that a dysplasia has been found.
to be franc with you the pad are healthier than tampons.
hope this answer your question
thanks
