Toprol XL vs. Metoprolol: Understanding Dosage Changes & Concerns
QuestionI have heart problems and have been on toporal xl 200mg / once per day . in order to reduce my prescription costs a new doctor has recommended that i change to Metoporal at the rate of 400mg per day 200mg in the am and 200mg in the pm this seem excessive to me should I be concerned?
I have been on toporal xl for several years with no side effects
AnswerDear Thomas, Toporal and Metoprolol are common names for Lopressor....Metoprolol is the generic name.... The dosage is very much within the maximum amounts allowed and since you are taking 200mg 2 time per day this is very much okey.... The toporal XL (extended relief) acts the same way as taking 2 200mg of the Metoprolol... I assume you misspelled Metoprolol when you typed Metoporal... It is often misspelled but they are the same drug as Lopressor....Also, different drug companies have different names for their generic drugs but it all comes back to they are ALL FORMS OF LOPRESSOR......
If you MUST change your medications because of COST, then all I can say is try it and if you have problems, change back to the Toporal XL......
Thank you, karen
