Anesthesia Risks & Safety with Multiple Surgeries
QuestionHello. I'm a 31 y.o. healthy female & a Peds Hem/Onc RN. I'm having a breast augmentation 3-19-04 and a hysterectomy 3-25-04. I'm concerned with having these procedures done so close together. I was assured by both MD's that this is not a problem. Each procedure takes about 1 hr. What about having general anesthesia so close together? Is it dangerous? Or, what about the increased risk for infection?
AnswerHi Liz,
Of course there is always a risk to general anesthesia at any time, but there is really no increased risk by having two 'generals' within a week of each other. There also isn't any higher an infection risk performing these procedures close together than the average risk associated with either done alone.
