Effective Exfoliation Tools: Mesh, Loofahs & More

Sometimes exfoliation using the physical or chemicals means alone is not enough. Regardless of whether you use an exfoliating scrub or just a facial cleanser, you’ll need something to help loosen that dead skin. One option is a tightly woven nylon mesh, which will remove more dead skin from your face than a sponge. A loofah is another great exfoliating tool, and while it’s too harsh for your face, it can be used to scrub the skin of your torso and back. Exfoliating gloves are another option with abrasive qualities, or you could try exfoliating pouches, porous cloths that contain facial cleanser. For a gentle exfoliating experience, there are micro-exfoliating cloths, which are made from fibers 100 times thinner than a human hair. And if you’re a power tool lover, there’s also the electric face brush, a tool that’s similar to an electric toothbrush. But you don’t have to buy a special tool just to exfoliate — even common household items like a towel or washcloth can help loosen dead skin

However, let us look at the various
exfoliation tools available in the market.

Body Loofah:

It was first distributed by Lux along with its body washes. Before that, not many people were aware of the need of exfoliation and how it could be achieved. So, what at that time looked as a luxury has become very much a routine today. It’s made of synthetic material and scrubs the body well enough. It is easy to use with the body washes.

Body Loofahs with handles:

This is a variant of the above type. It comes in various sizes with various sizes of handles too. There is a small loofah with almost 6 inch long handle available for face exfoliation. Similarly, the variant with a foot long handle and a large loofah is meant for the back.

Bath Gloves

This exfoliation tool was propagated in India by The Body Shop. And, the word spread through the digital medium and it has become a staple of body care routine. The gloves are made up of soft but scrubby material (may be cotton) which is not too harsh on the skin and is useful to lather up the body wash also well enough. No extra scrubbing product is required. The scrub power of the gloves is enough. These gloves come in a free size and fit almost all sizes of hands. And, scrubbing the back is easy with these gloves. The result is an awesome soft skin.
A variant of the body gloves is mitts. It is the hand wear used by the sportsmen. So, a loofah or a glove in shape of a mitt can be worn and used to exfoliate the skin.

Body Brush

This is a very interesting variant of a long-handled loofah. But, the loofah portion is replaced by natural or synthetic or nylon fibers. These fibers are supposed to remove the dead skin cells during the bath. A very interesting point is that these brushes can also be used on dry skin.

Face Brush

Have you heard of the Clari sonic facial brush or may be the Body Shop facial buffer? Yes, a lot of tools or brushes are invading the market and claim to remove the wrinkles and the dead skin of the face. Depending on the make and the brand, these brushes or tools may be soft or harsh on the skin so a proper survey must be done before buying them.

Pumice Stone or Foot Filers

Pumice stone is an age-old exfoliating tool used for dead skin on the heels. It is an extremely porous stone formed when the lava comes out of the volcano. It is not so harsh on the feet and removes the dead skin really well.

Similarly, we can find foot filers everywhere. They are made up of stainless steel and have grooves in them which are supposed to remove the dead skin. But, they can be very harsh on the feet too if they have sharp edges or they are used excessively. Thus, a trusted brand should be picked up.
