Used Vanceril Inhalers (beclomethasone) for several years (not available now). Presently using QVar 80 (beclomethasone)with the side
effects of yeast growth in my throat, even with
adequate rinsing after use. are there any
replacements for QVar 80 without the side effects?
Answer -
Hi Glen,
Most steroid preparations have the potential to cause yeast infection despite rinsing. You can get a prescription for Nystatin Swish and Swallow to combat the yeast. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about Singulair and Spiriva. These have shown great promise in treating chronic lung disease. You should also be on a drug like Advair Discus. Steroid inhalers alone are not enough to effectively treat chronic lung disease.
Hi Doc, thanks very much for your opinion and the extremely fast response. Will add more pieces to the puzzle, am presently using
Albuterol inhaler, advent inhaler, serevent discus and the QVar 80 for my
problem,I still remain mobile but not capable of doing anything strenuous.
am 72 years old , smoked for 50 years, quit 8 years ago. Belong to an
HMO which seems to have little regard for this problem. Thanks very much
for your time, any advice would be appreciated.
AnswerHi Glen,
Thanks for the additional info. You still should ask your doctor to look into Spiriva and Singulair. Thes two drugs, in my experience in treating patients like yourself, have shown significant improvement in lung function and symptom relief. You might also consider a home nebulizer using Albuterol and Atrovent. Use your Albuterol inhaler for rescue only.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel that your HMO isn't reponsive to your problem. I used to work or a large HMO and I know where you're coming from.
