Chronic Headaches & Muscle Aches: What Could It Be?

Question
Dear Dr. Aukerman,

I am an 18 year old female, and have been experiencing chronic headaches and general muscle aches every day for about a month now.  I haven't been to a doctor yet--I am simply waiting it out.  However, I have done some research online, and my symptoms fit the discription of tension headaches(better known as "stress" headaches).  I am attending my first year of college and have been known to be a little bit of a worrier.  This might have something to do with it, but again, I am not sure.  Maybe you can help me.  I never have been one to get headaches.  I have never done drugs, and I don't drink alcohol.  I am also not on any perscription medications, and have never been.  However, they aren't normal headaches that feel like migranes.  Instead, they feel like throbbing, that comes and goes--also moves from the top of my head, to the sides, to the back.  The muscle aches come and go as well, and also move from place to place(they never stay in one certain area of my body.)  I don't feel sick, don't have a fever, don't have trouble sleeping, etc.  I wonder if these headaches and muscle aches have to do with stress or not.  Have you ever heard of this happening to anyone else my age?  I would really appreciate it if you could give me your opinion on this matter.  I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

Answer
Yes, it sounds like a muscle tension, stress headache but needs treatment the same. My patients find the following nutrients particularly the magnesium, b complex and the omega 3 help within a few days and really help the grades too. Target has a clearance on these now so they can be very affordable.

Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 mg caps  Start with two (2) caplets twice daily
(goal is 1000-2000 mg of total EPA and DHA daily)

High Potency B Complex (B-50, B100 or B150), Start with one (1) tablet twice daily.

Multivitamin (for age and gender),  one (1) tablet daily.

Magnesium Oxide 250 mg tabs Start with two (2) tabs (500mg) twice daily.

Calcium 500 mg with Vit D tabs, Start with one (1) tablet twice daily OR Caltrate with vitamin D 1000 mg daily; (Do not take calcium within 4 hours of thyroid dose)

Vitamin C 1000 mg Start with one (1) tablet twice daily.
