Dengue Symptoms, Diagnosis & Transmission During Breastfeeding
QuestionHi. I have a sore throat, a 39.5 to 40 degree fever, muscle and joint pain. I was told to take paracetamol and diclofenac but once the effectivity of the meds goes away I'm back with the high fever. I had dengue before and am afraid I have it again. I'm breastfeeding so I'm extra afraid to transmit it to my child.
My question is when should I go for a blood test? Do my syptoms seem like dengue? Can I transmit it to my child?
Thank you.
AnswerST, fever, sounds more like strep throat... Dengue is sooooooo rare, that I would seriously doubt that. It is rarely seen outside the Caribbean or SE asia. There are antibody tests that can confirm a primary diagnosis, which may be harder, since you had it before. You would have to have the blood drawn by a lab that can send the specimens to a specialty lab.... this will probably have to be done thru an office physician... doubt whether it could be done in the emergency room. Unknown about transmitting it thru breast milk....
Hope this helps...
