QuestionSir: My wife is a resident of a Third World country. She had a (product unknown) 2-year birth control hormone implant break and release several weeks after insertion, then replaced by a second one, which remained for about 15 months. A different doctor advised her the product was fraught with dangers, and removed it. As he advised her, she bled copiously for over two months after removal. Since removal she has suffered skin acne and, much more importantly, severe mood swings - crying, depression, hostility, and irrational behavior. I believe that this is a result of the hormonal assault, and I think that I remember that this can cause PMS-like sypmtoms. Could you advise if this might be accurate, and if so, will it correct on its own, or is there a successful treatment available. I am very concerned. Thanks for any guidence.

Yes, this should eventually improve but she could try eating a lot of sardines daily for 1 month or taking omega 3 fish oil caps at 4000mg twice a day to detox the hormones released if OK with her doctor.
