Hi again. As Ive mentioned to you before, I have been having a lot of sleep problems. I have a doctors appointment on Monday and I am planning on asking him about going on a low dose sedative antidepressant to help me sleep. I tend to worry a lot about things, especially not being able to sleep, so I think this would help. I am also hoping that it would not be as addictive as sleeping pills. Do you know which antidepressants are best for sleep and have few side effects? Thanks for your help.

Answer -
Hi Jennifer,
Each antidepressant can have a different effect on slep habits. For one, Prozac can interrupt sleep and for another, Zoloft can cause drowsiness. There are many different kinds of antidepressants so a frank discussion with your doctor about all the issues, will help him or her choose the right one for you.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Unfortunately all antidepressants have side effects, some worse than others. You'll have to see how you do until the right one is found. I'd ask about Zoloft first. Antidepressants aren't addictive in the sense of dependency. Be prepared to have to stay on antidepressants for life. You might consider counseling to try to work through your problems. This can help in getting off antidepressants in some cases.
