Olfactory Nerve Ablation: Understanding the Procedure and Considerations

is there an operation to eliminate the olfactory sense of smell ?

I am actually not sure.  Why would anyone want to take away an important sense?  I am sure there are ways to ablate or destroy the cribiform plate/plexus.  There are certain disease processes and medications that interfere with the sense of smell.  Sorry this is not my area of expertise.  An Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon (ENT) would be helpful.
