Shock Treatment: Why IV Fluids Are Essential

Why can you not give water to a patient with shock?

shock is a situation of decreased blood flow to organs... I would not want to give fluids by mouth because they may need to have to have a tube down the throat for airway control and you don't want to have someone vomiting while you try that.... the fluids should be given IV.....
