Esophagitis & GERD Symptoms: Seeking Advice on Next Steps
QuestionHi i(27 single male) was diagnosed with Grade A esophagitis and lax GE Junction(everything else was ok) in feb 2007 and i have used 40 days of medicines prescribed(some type of prazole, i dont have the prescription right know). I felt little ok but did not get complete relief from pain below the rib bone(starting of stomach). Presently symptoms are back strongly
(throat burning, nausea and pain at the start of stomach). Can you please suggest if i need a endoscopy again within 6 months or just will be ok taking omeprazole. I am alone and wont be able to get endoscopy here as they have to give anestesia. Please please advice how serious a problem is this?
AnswerHi Chandra,
At your age to have esophagitis is significant. You should avoid chocolate, caffiene and peppermint. These can exacerbate the condition. Don't eat 5 hours before bedtime and swallow small amounts of well chewed food.
You might benefit from overnight gastric pH testing to see if you may be a candidiate for a fundoplication to prevent reflux. I would also get an H. Pylori test to be sure that you don't have that bacteria growing in your stomach.
