QuestionMy husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 14 months now with no luck. I've also been experiencing the following symptoms for about 9 months now; missed/irregular periods, excessive dark coarse hair growth on my face (beard/mustache) breasts and stomach, crop up of skin tags on my neck and chest, no sex drive, weight gain, mainly in my belly, for no reason (28 pounds in 8 months), regular headaches, and many more minor things I've noticed. I recently went to my obgyn for my yearly pap (which came back just fine) and after informing her of my symptoms, she ordered three labs; thyroid (came back fine), prolactin (came back fine), and testosterone. The testosterone lab came back high she said so she recommended that I have another lab done in 6 weeks. Also said that if I haven't gotten pregnant in 6 months that I should be tested for infertility. I've been doing some reading and now I'm convinced I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (or even a tumor on my pituitary gland). I'm making myself crazy thinking that my obgyn isn't as concerned as I am. Should I just wait out the 6 weeks and see what my second testosterone tests says or should I make an appointment and discuss my concerns with my primary family physician?
Answerlindsay;
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome-ovary enlargement from many small cysts. the surface of the ovaries becomes too thick to allow ovulation[the monthly release of the egg from the ovary]. women with this problem cannot become pregnant without treatment.
hormone therapy and surgery usually decreases masculine characteristics and often restore fertility. some signs and symptoms may never disappear completely.
i suggest you talk with your GYN doctor about your concerns,if by changes they dont listen to you,i suggest getting another doctor;
good luck;
