QuestionI have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and after a lumpectomy am awaiting radiotherapy. I have started a five year course of tamoxifen (approx a week ago) and am experiencing discomfort in the front of both my legs, from the knee down-they feel like lead and slow down my walking somewhat. Could this be a side effect of tamoxifen? If so will symptoms disappear as my body gets used to the drug or could it be co-incidental and totally unrelated? Am also experiencing breast pain but am told that that is normal at beginning of treatment.
Thanks for your time
Anna
AnswerDear Anna,
First of all, my prayers and good thoughts to you. I know you are going to be okay!
Tamoxifen CAN cause weakness, pain and swelling of the legs. You definitely should report this to your physician. I am not sure if this clears up, or if it is a side effect that continues. But you do need to report any side effect to your physician.
You had a lumpectomy. It WILL hurt for a while. When was your surgery? Is the pain new, or did it start right after the lumpectomy?
Please let me know if I can help you in any way. Again, best wishes to you!
