Recurring Urinary Burning: Understanding Urologist Visits & Second Opinions
QuestionHi doctor, my mom is age 67 and she has seen a uroligist for a burning issue while urinating about a year ago, since then she has to return every 3 months to see him for what i think they call a dilation which was determined to be the cause of the burning. Well she absoultely hates to go and have this done since she says it is painful and she was considering having a second opinion, i told her that probably a different uroligist would do the same thing and it would hurt just as much, my question is i thought every 3 months seemed a little much, also the urlogist clamimed she would need to have this dilation performed for the remainer of her life. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks
AnswerI agree... I am not sure what the first urologist says is the underlying issue, but I would get a second opinion re: the diagnosis and treatment... I assume there is defintely not an infection, so this could be interstitial cystitis.... but I haven't heard of dilation every 3 months for much of anything.....
