Understanding Stomach Pulsations: Causes & When to Worry

Question
Hi there,

I'm really concerned because for the last few days, I've been noticing that there is a constant pulsating/throbbing in my stomach - next to my navel on my left side. It feels like a fast heartbeat.

It's not an acute "pain" per se, but it's uncomfortable and it just feels wrong.

I'm not quite sure what it could be...I've read that some people have this "heartbeat" in their stomach, and it's quite normal..but I've only noticed it in the last few days...so I'm a bit worried.

I haven't been well in the last few weeks. I've just recently recovered from a Urinary tract infection, and I was wondering if that could have something to do with it? Could the infection have spread to another area without me realising it?

Also, I've just been put on epilepsy medication...could this have caused this pulsating or some sort of irregularity in my stomach?

Sorry if this is too detailed!

Thank you!

Answer
Gt to the hospital as soon as possible!  This is a medical EMERGENCY!!!!  You may have an abdominal aneurysm.  In fact, if you are in the US, ****call 911 for an ambulance.*****  Please followup to let me know how you are doing after you've been to the emergency room. Do not wait in line at the ER, call an ambulance.  This is a classic symptom of an aneurysm.  In fact, call 911, then lie down!
