Fish Oil for Arterial Plaque: Does it Really Help?

Question
Hi, I'm an expert in another area.  Had a carotid ultrasound, despite good diet, cholesterol levels routinely under 200 (about 190) for years, extensive treadmill exercise, there is some plack (sic?) on both arteries (although blood flow is normal).  My Dr. said 195 might be too high for ME, he'd like to see future levels lower, let's start with fish oil supplements (and then proceed further if necessary).  I tried fish oil supplements about five years ago.  They increased my PVCs (which are related to my gastrointestinal tract in some way, as it took me years to figure out) to a very uncomfortable level (many a day for weeks), which stopped when I stopped taking the supplements!  Dr. said there's a new and improved version, he couldn't remember the brand name, that doesn't have any aftertaste, no burping, no GI effects, but does lower LDL and help raise HDL (which in my case is ok now).  Do you happen to know what this is?  I've done research but basically I am totally clueless in this area. Thank you.

Answer
You didn't mention your age or smoking status, but with plaque, I would put more money on getting on a statin to lower your cholesterol significantly lower.

I don't know that there is some more magic fish oil... you get much more "bang for the buck" from the statin drugs......
