BRCA Genetic Testing: Understanding Your Risk

Question
My maternal grandmother died of ovarian cancer at 74.  Should I have the genetic testing done?  My mom turns 60 next year and is in good health and her sister is 65 and in good health.  her dad died of stomach cancer.  The other side of my family the only death is an aunt at 48 of multiple myeloma.

What should I do?

Answer
you could have genetic testing..... a single grandmother with ovarian cancer doesn't make you that high up in the risk stratification.... but it may give you some piece of mind.....    I don't think anyone would push hard for testing but it may help you have some reassurance.....
