QuestionHello,
A family member has stage 3 kidney disease and I was wondering if it always progress, or if is a way to slow it down. Should they always avoid foods that have a high sodium, protein, or phosphorus levels, or just limit them to occasion?
Thanks
AnswerThe answer is that depending on the cause..... it pretty much always progresses.... the question is at what rate...... if typically from hypertension or diabetes, it will progress, but you can slow down that progression significantly with a good kidney diet and control of blood sugar/ blood pressure. These low protein diets help and the better you are with the diet, the better the results......
