VBAC with Triplets: Risks, Possibilities & Doctor Perspectives
QuestionHi 13 years ago I had a c-section with my daughter. I have had three drug free vaginal births of healthy babies since. I am now 30 weeks pregnant with triplets. My obstetrician insists I must have a c-section with this pregnancy. Do you agree or could I have a vaginal birth.
AnswerYou will find it very difficult to find any doctor willing to allow you to have a vaginal birth with triplets, regardless of your c-section history. The risks of birth do increase with triplets, and obstetricians prefer to have those risks under their direct control in a surgical setting. You may be able to compromise by agreeing to birth in the OR, with everything in place to switch to a c-section should it become necessary. You might be able to find a midwife willing to take you on for an out-of-hospital birth, but I personally would not recommend it.
Good luck!
